Other UVic microscopy instruments
Should you need different capabilities, other multi-user instruments are housed in various locations on campus:
Raman Spectroscopy
Dr. Brolo in Chemistry, Dr. Jirasek in Physics, and Dr. Gordon in Electrical and Computer Engineering have a Raman Spectroscopy instrument. It is maintained as part of the Imaging and laser lab.
Atomic force microscopy
UVic Chemistry has an Agilent Technologies 5500 Scanning Probe Microscope available for outside users, that is maintained through the Imaging and laser lab. Contact Alex Wlasenko for training and access to the instrument. There is an online booking system available.
Electron beam metal deposition
UVic Chemistry has an Angstrom Engineering electron beam and thermal metal deposition system available for outside users, that is maintained through the Imaging and laser lab. Contact Alex Wlasenko for training and access to the instrument.
Raith ebeam lithography
The UVic Nanofabrication Facility houses a clean room with a Raith E-beam lithography laboratory. It is in the department of Physics, located in the basement of the Elliot Laboratory Wing.
JEOL JEM-1400 TEM
Dr. Patrick C. Nahirney's JEOL JEM-1400 TEM, located in the Medical Sciences Building room 336C.
This instrument can be booked on our online booking system.
The Electron Microscopy Laboratory
The Electron Microscopy Laboratory houses a Hitachi H-7000 TEM, Hitachi S-3500N variable pressure SEM with EDX, ultramicrotomes, critical point dryer, vacuum evaporator, auto freeze substitution system, cryofixation workstation, and other equipment. It is in the Department of Biology, located in Cunningham 065.
The Advanced Imaging Facility
The Advanced Imaging Facility contains a diverse array of optical microscopy equipment and supporting equipment. It is in the Department of Biology, located in Petch 009 and 106.
Olympus confocal laser scanning microscope
Dr. Brian Christie from the Division of Medical Sciences has an Olympus BX61WI confocal laser scanning microscope available for use. This instrument can be booked on our booking system.
